Q. Reggie, we always talk about good sportsmanship
but then they put wrestling on televison, even thou most of us know it to
be fake. What kind of example is that for our children to see? Referees
that are blind when it comes to one opponent hitting the other opponent
over the head with a chair, and to see parents sitting next to them
cheering the wrestlers on. What kind of example are these wrestlers
showing?
A. I agree that not all actions of the
wrestlers are good for children to watch. I believe that you are right in
saying that it doesn't show good sportsmanship. I have talked to a lot of
children about wrestling and some of them believe it to be true. Do we
want kids to believe that they can hit a person over the head with a chair
and nothing will happen to them. Parents need to talk to their kids about
wrestling and let them know that those wrestlers are just acting and have
practiced those moves over and over again. We also need to decide if that
is the examples we want our children watching.
Q. Reggie, is Winooski for sale to
developers? It seems that more and more homes are being build in areas
that seem to be unsafe?
A. If you have enough money or you know the right
people, their's always seems to be a loop hole for them to fall
in.
Q. Reggie, I've been hearing a lot about suspicious
vehicles on my scanner, can you give me the definition of a suspicious
vehicle that the police use?
A. I'm not sure what the definition that the police
use, but they seem to use this word a lot so they can stop anyone they
want and get away with it.
Q. Reggie, I have away for the police department to
save money, if they would park their police vehicles in front of the
police department for visiblety and not try to hide them in the garage,
they could save about $.07 each time they don't open or close the garage
door. They could save enough money to pay the electric bill for two
months.
A. I'm not sure that is true, but it's a tempting
idea.
Q. Dear Reggie, How many times do we have to be
lied to? We were told we didn't need the Memorial School on Union Street,
they said they would have a bus that would pick up our children and take
them to school, free. We were also told that there wasn't going to be any
charge for the Winooski Swimming Pool, yet I have to buy a season pass
every year so my children can go swimming. We were told we needed a street
sweeper, yet we only use it 3 to 4 times a year for the last ten years.
Now they want to buy a new street sweeper. When is the city going to start
telling us the truth or start doing what they tell us they are going to
do?
A. I'm going to leave this questions up to the
Citizens of Winooski. What do you think the answer should be?
Q. Reggie, Why does it seem to be so easy for our
school children to buy dope, but the police can't find the
sellers?
A. If the police are in the office or
outside of Winooski then they can't do their job, around here,
in Winooski.
Q. Reggie, I have a two part question- (1) Do we
need that new fire truck that we bought? (2) How do you feel about
dropping young kids off in the parking lot when most people are often in a
rush and not always watching were they are going, or the fact that in the
winter time the children have to climb over the snow banks to get to the
school?
A. (1) No, I don't think we need a large fire truck
that sits at the station, the money would be better spent on a boys and
girl's club. (2) As long as there is a police officer there, I see no
reason why parents can't drive up to the school and drop off their
children, as long as they are not sitting there waiting or leaving their
cars unattempted.
Q. Reggie, I'm sorry but you were wrong in your
last issue when you said that the Winooski Police has to patrol one square
mile, but if you take away the railroad property that brings it to 3/4 of
a mile. The only time they seem to patrol the tracks is when something
happens and it's too late.
A. I'm Sorry, I'm not sure you are right, but I do
know the railroad has a good 20 feet from the center of the track's which
is about 40 feet wide. I'm not sure how long it is from the blue bridge to
the water dame.
Q. Reggie, Why is it every time we need our Police
Dog they are never around?
A. Our Police Department is so nice that they keep
letting our Police Dog out to other departments, so when we need the dog
he's out at another department, doing their job. Should we get money from
those other departments for doing their job, or are they going to help us
out when we need our dog and he is at there place? Think about
it.
Q. Reggie, If a police officer is hired to patrol
the city, would it be called stealing if they don't patrol the whole
city?
A. I believe that if you are hired to
patrol a city, the whole city should be patrolled. If some streets are not
being patrolled then the police department is stealing from those people
who pay the same amount of taxes as everyone else. I am from the old
school, no one is above the law.
Q. Reggie, I live on Main Street, here in Winooski
and I have a cheap radio, yet I can here the base radio and also the
officers when then are in there vehicles. Why does the Police have such a
hard time hearing each other?
A. I also have a cheap radio and I can hear
Burlington, South Burlington, Essex, Colchester, Milton, the Burlington
Airport and also the planes around the Burlington area. When the police
vehicles can't reach the station or the station can't reach the police
vehicles, does that mean the police vehicles are out of their
area?
Q. Reggie, where were the police when the
bank on Main street was robbed two times, when a body was found under the
blue bridge, and why does it take so long for the police to respond when
they get a call that someone is missing? One more thing, do we have a
police dog?
A. First, when the bank was robbed the first
time one of the officers was out patrolling, just not in that area. The
second time the bank was robbed the police were talking with the FBI about
the first robbery. Second, the police don't seem to patrol around the
bridge (under or on the tracks). Last, we do have a police dog but he
always seems to be busy somewhere else.
Q. Reggie, it is right for the police
officers to run the dispatcher down and accuse her of saying St. Peters
Street instead of Malletts Bay Ave? I heard her say Malletts Bay Ave not
St. Peter Street on 10/17/2000.
A. No, I think it's time for the officers to start
listening more carefully because I heard that same thing. There is no
reason why the police officers can't repeat the address, to make sure
there headed in the right direction.
Q. Reggie, is it fair to get a ticket when
you park in front of your own driveway?
A. It's only fair if the police give the
tickets to everyone that is doing the same thing, because that is the law.
They should also be giving tickets to cars that park 25 feet from cross
walks and intersections, 15 feet from hydrants, 50 feet from railroad
crossings and 18 in. from curbs. At this point you are able to go up and
down Winooski and see who is breaking the law, but what are they doing
about it? Nothing.

Q. Reggie, I heard on my scanner that the Winooski
Police misplaced one of their cruisers, did they ever find it?
A. Yes, They found it in the upper parking
lot.
Q. Reggie, was all of the Winooski police in
Winooski when we had that armed robbery?
A. No, one had to come from Fort Ethan Allen. Did
someone extend our boundary and forget to tell the rest of us?
Q. Reggie, who pays the Winooski Police Departments
salaries?
A. That is the big question,
does Colchester, how about Go Go Gas, on the other hand the state could be
paying. I'm not sure Winooski Tax Payer should be the ones that pay, when
everyone else gets the service.
Q. Reggie, Why does it take so long
for the police to get to Clifford Street when we have a
problem.
A. With our city being so small I would have to say
only a few minutes, however the last time the Winooski Police were called
to Clifford Street it took them fifteen minutes to respond. Even if they
were at the furthest point in Winooski away from Clifford Street would it
really take that long? That would mean the police cruiser only drove 185
feet per minute or maybe that happened to be a day that they were training
on their police bikes that are hardly taken off the hooks in the police
parking garage.
Q. Reggie, what do you think about the trees being
planting around Winooski?
A. I believe the city should do anything they can
to make Winooski more beautiful. If they feel planting trees will do that
then I'm 100% behind them.
Q. Reggie, are you still transporting people
to vote on election days.
A. Yes, we will transport any person
of legal voting age to the polls. All you will have to do on the day
before and the day of the election is give us a call at 655-7020 ext. 99
and set up a time for us to pick you up on that voting date. We will run
from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Q. Reggie, were you investigating Motel 6 at one
time?
A. Yes, I heard some things about them so I went up
to talk to them, they informed me that they had an army of lawyer and
since I only have one lawyer I chose not to continue my investigation.
However, I will not use them at all.
Q. Reggie, what is it that the politicians fear and
what do they welcome the most?
A. The VOTE! We are all
intelligent people that should vote our conscious not with our Political
Party wants.
Q. Reggie, were you pleased with the vote for the
city budget?
A. Yes and no, we should only pay for
what we get, but I would like to have more people to get out to vote. We
found out accidentally about the vote when we read the Burlington Free
Press. (They Did n't have any signs out to state their was voting going
on.)
Q. Reggie, why does it cost Winooski so much more
per square mile than other Police Departments?
A. It cost us 2-3 times more per square Mile
than other Police Departments so we can have extra Police Officers, this
way we can lead them out to other Police Department. Like when Burlington,
South Burlington or Colchester needs a Female Officer to do a female body
search, Yes, I said even Burlington.
